About the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association

The Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association (ASBTIA) represents Australia’s southern bluefin tuna industry, based primarily in Port Lincoln, South Australia. The industry is known for its premium quality tuna, sustainably farmed and carefully handled to meet the highest international standards. Southern bluefin tuna from Australia is prized globally for its rich flavour, high fat content, and sashimi-grade quality.

The industry, through ASBTIA is committed to environmental stewardship, operating under strict quotas set by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT). The Australian purse seine fishery for SBT was recently announced as the world’s first SBT fishery certified against the Marine Stewardship Council standards.

ASBTIA at Expo 2025 Osaka

ASBTIA is proud to partner with the Australian Government to showcase southern bluefin tuna at the Australia Pavilion for World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. This partnership reflects our shared values of quality, innovation, and sustainability. Japan is the largest consumers of southern bluefin tuna, and Expo 2025 offers a unique platform to celebrate and strengthen this longstanding trade relationship.

By participating in the Expo, ABSTIA aims to highlight Australia’s leadership in sustainable seafood production and our rigorous approach to resource management. Our tuna is not only a premium culinary product but also a symbol of our commitment to responsible fishing practices, scientific innovation, and international cooperation.

This collaboration underscores Australia's reputation as a trusted food supplier to Japan and the world. It also allows us to celebrate the cultural and economic ties between our nations while reinforcing our industry's ongoing efforts to supply world-class, environmentally responsible seafood to discerning markets.

From Daniel Casement, CEO, Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association

“Our industry is immensely proud of the sustainable, high-quality reputation we have earned for our SBT over a long time, and to have that recognised by the MSC, the world’s leading eco-label, and to showcase the product in the world’s largest and most revered global sashimi market is humbling and exciting.”
