ASICS supplying sustainable, recyclable shoes for Australia Pavilion staff at World Expo 2025

About ASICS

Founded in 1949, the company was established based on the founder Kihachiro Onitsuka’s desire to contribute to society through the development of young people via sports. Their founding philosophy of ANIMA SANA IN CORPORE SANO—A Sound Mind In A Sound Body—expresses their desire for people around the world to live healthful, happy lives both physically and mentally.

In addition to their core sports products, ASICS offers lifestyle products in the SportStyle category, as well as the fashion brand "Onitsuka Tiger" targeting the lifestyle market. They also provide services such as running apps. Over 80% of ASICS’ sales come from overseas, and as a global company originating in Japan, they are now moving toward their next growth stage with a focus on their 100th anniversary.

ASICS are providing the recyclable running shoes "NIMBUS MIRAI™" to the staff of the Australia Pavilion. These shoes are designed with recycling in mind, while maintaining the same level of quality and performance as our other performance running shoes. This is achieved by selecting all materials used in the shoes for their recyclability. In addition, ASICS are implementing a shoe-return program to promote environmental awareness along with the runners. The upper is made entirely from a single material, including the main body, reinforcements, and eyelets, with over 75% consisting of recycled polyester. By using a single material, the need for disassembly of parts is reduced, enabling high-precision recycling.

From April 1 to May 7, ASICS conducted a global initiative called the “Run for Reforestation Challenge” as part of its efforts to combat climate change. In this program, participants could contribute to tree planting —one tree for every five kilometers of physical activity, including running, walking, hiking, plogging (jogging while picking up litter), trail running, and wheelchair activity.

This initiative was designed to raise awareness of climate change and encourage individuals to take concrete action by supporting reforestation efforts, at a time when global attention on the issue continues to grow.

From Yasuhito Hirota, ASICS Chairman and CEO, Representative Director

“We are truly excited to support the Australia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka as an official partner by providing our sustainable running shoes, NIMBUS MIRAI™, to the pavilion staff.

At ASICS, our purpose has been to help people achieve “A Sound Mind In A Sound Body.” To do this, we need a sound earth to run on, and which is why sustainability is at the core of all the activities we do.

The Australia Pavilion’s innovative and sustainable design aligns closely with our values, and we are proud to support the dedicated team working there by providing footwear that reflects both performance and environmental responsibility.

Australia is a key region for ASICS, and we are continually inspired by the energy and passion for sport that defines its people. We look forward to walking together towards a more sustainable and bright future through this meaningful collaboration.”
