After six extraordinary months at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, the Australia Pavilion has officially closed its doors - and what a journey it’s been!
From the entire pavilion team, thank you to the more than 3 million visitors, our incredible partners, and all those who made this experience unforgettable. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and support helped us celebrate and share Australia’s culture and diversity with the world.
Whether you stopped by for a coffee at Café Koko, attended a business event, or met one of our iconic mascots, we are grateful for every moment you spent with us.
Australia Pavilion: by the numbers

From sunrise to sunset, the pavilion buzzed with activity. More than 850 performances brought to life the creativity, innovation and diverse spirit of Australia, while beloved mascots like Koko the Koala, Ruby the Souvenir Kangaroo, Bluey and Bingo made over 1,000 appearances, delighting families from around the world.
On Australia’s National Day, led by Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Hon. Sam Mostyn AC, the pavilion shone a spotlight on our First Nations heritage, creativity and multicultural identity - reinforcing our shared values with Japan and global visitors alike.
Where culture met conversation
The pavilion wasn’t just a place to visit, it was a place to connect. Over 165 business and diplomatic events hosted 8,000 guests, sparking new partnerships in key sectors from clean energy to AI, health, space and food innovation.
Australia’s full breadth was on display, with participation from all states and territories, and over 400 protocol visits welcoming 5,000 VIPs, including leaders from Japanese and Australian government, industry and community.
A real taste of Australia

At Café Koko, visitors experienced Australian hospitality first-hand, with over 887,000 food and drink items served. Standout favourites included:
- 200,000 Four’n Twenty meat pies
- 130,000+ cups of Aussie coffee
- 240,000 lamingtons, and
- 75,000+ beers

And at the retail carts, more than 78,000 items, from Koko plush toys to Aussie wines and macadamias, gave visitors a slice of Australia to take home.
Our impact, recognised
The pavilion’s success extended far beyond foot traffic:

- GOLD at the 2025 GOV Design Award & 2025 WORLD Design Awards for our logo, designed by Balarinji
- Shortlisted in the Stadium Business Awards (Sustainability category)
- Showcased global partnerships through Pacific Day and leadership in Te Aratini Indigenous Peoples’ Week
As the sun sets on World Expo 2025
Under the theme Chasing the Sun, the Australia Pavilion was a beacon of collaboration and creativity, showcasing Australia’s unique energy, our diverse and warm people, our talent, and our stunning natural environment. While the Expo may be over, the connections and opportunities it sparked will continue to grow.
Thank you again to all who made the Australia Pavilion such a success. As the sun sets on the Australia Pavilion, it rises on the next 50 years of the Australia/Japan relationship as we celebrate the anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 2026. We look forward to continuing the conversations and partnerships that began here - from Osaka to the world.
See you at the next adventure!
